We want to assure you that our students and staff are safe. At 1:49 pm today, March 2nd, the Brush Police Department was called to Brush Secondary Campus to assist in investigating an alleged theft. Due to the items that were allegedly stolen and out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with district protocols, students were placed on a hold which means students and staff were asked to remain in their classrooms until the area was cleared. This was not a lockdown.
The suspect, who is not a Brush School District employee or student, was placed under arrest and charges are pending. At no point were students deemed to be in immediate danger. During the arrest, controlled substances were discovered, which prompted us to extend the hold while the school was thoroughly cleared with the assistance of the Fort Morgan Police K9 unit. Once areas were confirmed safe, students were escorted to the south lawn for dismissal.
Additionally, during the hold, a person experienced a medical emergency unrelated to the investigation. That individual received appropriate care.
We are grateful for the patience and understanding of our students, staff, and families during this situation. The safety and well-being of everyone in our school community remains our top priority.
