The student must be in the eleventh or twelfth grade, be under the age of 22 and have permission of their parents(s) or guardians(s). A student intending to enroll in a post-secondary program must give written notice to the high school principal at least one month in advance of his/her enrollment.
The written notice must include:
- A description of all course work for which the student plans to enroll.
- Which courses he/she is requesting for high school graduation.
- The name of the institution of higher education.
- A statement which explains the basis for the request to take the course work at the institution of higher education.
The high school principal shall determine whether the student is eligible for the post-secondary program on the basis that:
- The student is in need of course work at a higher academic level than available at the high school.
- The coursework is not available at the high school
- The student is in need of a different learning environment.
- The student is able to pay all costs if such program.
Taking College Classes at Morgan Community College
The Brush School Board will pay partial tuition for the either vocational or academic courses at Morgan Community College. The Board sets the amount of tuition to be paid each year.
Vocational Classes: There are no initial eligibility requirements for junior or seniors taking the vocational courses such as Med Prep, Multi-Media, Auto Tec, and Collision Repair. However, if a student earns a semester grade below a C, that student will no longer be allowed to continue in the MCC vocational programs the next year.
Academic Classes: Qualifications for taking academic courses and having the school district pay a portion of the tuition are:
- The student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00
- The student must pass the ACCUPLACER test (or ACT) in the appropriate area with these designated scores.
- For English courses:
- 80+ on Reading Comprehension (17 ACT Reading)
- 95+ on Sentence Skills (18 ACT English)
- For Math courses:
- 85+ on Elementary Algebra (19 ACT Math)
- For all other courses:
- 80+ on Reading Comprehension (17 ACT Reading)
The Brush School District pays partial tuition (not the fees and books) for one academic course per semester for juniors who meet the qualification and for two academic courses per semester for seniors who meet the qualifications. If a student drops a course, wither voluntary or at the request of the instructor, the student or the student’s parent/guardian shall reimburse the school district for the amount of tuition paid by the district. Students who do not pass a college course (vocational or academic) with a grade of C or higher will be required to reimburse the school district for the cost of the tuition.
Students who take summer MCC courses or who will be paying for MCC courses themselves must have the courses approved by the Counseling Department and the principal before they take the course, if the courses are to be placed on the BHS transcript and used to complete graduation requirements. Students with passing grades in MCC courses will receive both high school and college credit.
