Scholarship is recognized and encouraged through the Honor Roll and Cadet Honor Roll. Eligible students must be enrolled in at least five classes each semester, and receive credit in all classes. The Honor Rolls are compiled at the close of each of the four quarters.
Requirements for the Cadet Honor Roll are a 3.0 average and no grade lower than a 2.0 value. The Honor Roll requires an average over 3.5 with no grade lower than 3.0
Academic Lettering
The purpose of the academic lettering program at BHS is to encourage and support academic excellence by all students. The fall of each school year, an academic lettering assembly is held. Sophomores through seniors are eligible to receive the awards. Everything is based upon the previous year’s GPA (grade point average). All students that have at least a 3.0 or higher will receive an academic certificate, 3.26 or higher will also receive an academic T-shirt, over 3.5 will, in addition, receive an academic letter. The second year students qualify for an academic letter they will be given an academic pin and the third and fourth years, academic bars.
National Honor Society
To qualify for National Honor Society, a student must have a cumulative semester grade point average of 3.00. The faculty then evaluates leadership, character and service and the total is determined.
Honors Convocation
Toward the end of the school year, a special assembly is held for the purpose of awarding local scholarships and giving recognition for notable achievements made by seniors. This assembly is held in the evening so that parents may attend.
Honor Graduates
All seniors with an accumulative grade point average of over 3.5 will graduate with honors.
Valedictorian/Salutatorian
Valedictorian/salutatorian candidates must take honors classes. The valedictorian title will be given to the graduate(s) with straight A’s or the nearest to straight A’s. Salutatorian (s) will be the next closest to straight A’s. Honors classes
